August is National Immunization Awareness Moth (NIAM), which is an annual observance to highlight the importance of vaccination for people of all ages. Therefore, we will discuss National Immunization Awareness Month and back-to-school vaccinations.

What is National Immunization Awareness Month?

The National Public Health Information Coalition (NPHIC) sponsors NIAM. In collaboration with CDC’s National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases, NPHIC also developed communication toolkits to educate people of all ages about vaccines recommended for them.

How Can National Immunization Awareness Month Make a Difference?

August is the time many of our kids are starting a new school year. However, schools require vaccinations. Therefore, this month is a great way to raise awareness about vaccines and share strategies to increase immunization rates in our community.

The following are just few ways to help make a difference:

  • Talk to friends and family members and how vaccines are not just for kids. Shots can protect people of all ages from serious diseases.
  • Encourage people in your community to get the flu vaccine every year.
